Mr Zaini Mohd Tahir started his artistic career at the age of 19 when he was with the Singapore Armed Forces' Music and Drama Company. Since graduation, he has worked as a choreographer/dancer on projects which have brought him to Japan, Germany, Canada and the United States. His most notable performances include memorable parts in productions by Theatreworks and as Pouncival in Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of Cats, which performed in Singapore and toured Melbourne, Hong Kong and Seoul.

Although he is trained in ballet, jazz and contemporary dance, Zaini is also greatly inspired by the Asian traditional dances, particularly the Indonesian classical dances where he once studied at the Bagong Academy of Dance in Jogjakarta. In NUS Dance Ensemble, he trains the 70 dancers as well as directs and choreographs the group's major performances such as the Next Wave productions and the NAC's Arts Education Programme. Since 1996, he is also the choreographer and consultant to the Singapore Airlines Performing Arts Group. Back to where he started, he is currently the Artistic Manager of the SAF Music and Drama Company, where he directs their productions and trains the artistes.
